The primary design of the HOC Dryer with molecular sieve directs all the discharged air from the compressor to the HOC Dryer with molecular sieve . When using an HOC Dryer with molecular sieve , the compressor after-cooler is not used. Remember, we need the high temperature air for regeneration.
The trade off here is the blower consumes additional electricity but is decidedly more efficient than the air compressor itself. This also allows all of the compressed air to be utilized by the plant as none is required for Dryer with 4A zeolite regeneration.

In the internal type, heaters are embedded in the molecular sieve bed. This reduces the amount of purge air required for regeneration to less than 10%. The purge air plus radiant heat is used to regenerate the off line molecular sieve bed.
There are several different types of heat reactivated regenerative dryers with molecular sieve desiccant and below we discuss each type along with their advantages and disadvantages. In all heated type regenerative dryers with molecular sieve desiccant the heat source can be provided by either electric or steam with the most common being electric.
Other variations for standard pressure/temperature conditions are 14.7 psia and 32F. As such, these variations can cause confusion and result in a mis-match between the compressed air with Molecular Sieve supply and compressed air with Molecular Sieve demand.
The dryers work by adsorbing moisture on desiccant material such as alumina, silica gel molecular sieves. The desiccant material is contained in two packed towers which are alternately in service or being regenerated.

The new refrigeration dryers with molecular sieve , on the other hand, work with an aluminium heat exchanger that combines these two different heat exchanger systems – an air-air heat exchanger between the cold, outgoing compressed air and the warm, incoming compressed air, as well as another compressed air-PCM heat exchanger.
At a basic level, these dryers with 4A molecular sieve function as follows: when compressed air requires cooling, from a starting temperature of 5 °C, for example, the coolant compressor is switched on.
